This extremely rude behavior is very frequent especially when you go out of Europe or North America, it's very common. They now actually resent anything more than a 5NN EE. They want to fill up their computer log with as many callsigns as possible, quantity over quality. What I now do in such situations where I'm answered with a 5NN — I remember when it happened with a 4S7 cw station, giving a nice CQ DX, so imagine my shock when I answered his call and he replied with my callsign de his callsign then no GE and no TU but instead just a high speed 5NN — I froze for a few seconds. Then, I decided not to bother replying with a report and just sent EE.

Today I answered a French station calling CQ and I was answered with 5NN!, I replied with a true RST report, in this case 559 and gave my name twice and passed back to the French station expecting more information. The reply I got was TU dit dit. No name, nothing. What's the point!
