Today, I had a UFB QSO with GW0FZY via LP on 30m, in the usual great conditions of late.

I LOVE chirp!!! How I miss it from the old days. So when I heard Justin ending a QSO on 10110.0 I could not resist. As it was not his frequency, I think, so I moved down 200Hz hoping he'd hear me and drift down too, and sure enough, it worked!

I was running my usual 100W to a doublet 2x(6.0+1.4m) up 9.2m broadside to EU. Justin was running excellent home brew rig putting out 70W to a dipole. I wonder how high up it was.

I had local QRN from a storm in the distance, and the usual local noise but not as high as it can be, so that was lucky, I gave Justin RST 349C and received RST 569 QSB?

Thanks for your patience OM Justin! I LOVE that type of QSO in marginal conditions where a little information is passed with many repeats, it just goes to show what can be done.

I hope to be hearing you all often on 30m!!!

I wish I had the ability to home brew great and chirpy rigs, sadly the QCX QRP kit I have ordered is not going to chirp, unless someone knows a modification I can make.

Someone may ask, why create chirp? Well, first, it sounds lovely, second, it works better in QRM, and third, it adds character — perhaps even XYL's may like the sound of it!

Thanks for the QSO Lou. It was great to have a QSO with 100W and a dipole at both ends! This is the fourth morning (UK time) in row I've heard Aus. The other VKs were in NSW.

I'm new to 30m. I only have 52 countries confirmed on LOTW. Let's hope for much more activity in the coming months.

Hi Lou,

I was just in time, band was closing down.

The antenna I was using is indeed 1/4 fullsize 80m GP that works as 5/8 on 30m.

At the moment I have 232 countries confirmed on 30m.

Today the forecast was for GOOD condx on 30m, something I've not seen in a few weeks, and indeed, condx were really good! Here were the results:

First half hour was calling Andrew GW3OQK on sked together at first with VK4QC, and I was unaware the band was so wide open to EU - I should have called CQ! OM Andrew was better late than never, as band was closing LP to EU. Let's try again soon! Hopefully tomorrow condx will be this good again.

I'm hopeful that many of the above stations will join this forum, with FULL PROFILES!
